Frequently Asked Questions by Homeowners and Listers

Is there a demand for my home as private lodging?

Certainly. There are a number of events during the year when the demand for available hotel rooms outpaces the existing supply. During these periods visitors are willing to pay a premium for lodging. In addition, many visitors PREFER the comfort and amenities of a home to a hotel room. Often a listed home provides easier access to desired events or locations than remote hotels. Other visitors like to share the expense of lodging among a group which makes a home which sleeps 4 or more a desirable alternative.

How much does it cost?

The charge for a one-time Super Bowl is $79.00. It will go up later in the year. If you rent your home just one day you're making money.

When should I list my home?

As soon as possible! There are many advantages to listing early in the year. Corporate clients, VIPs, and those associated with the game know they are coming to Phoenix in February and make arrangements very early in the year. If you don't have a listing in May, June and July you are missing out on the opportunity to rent early. If you wait until December to list your home (and unfortunately many people do) you are relying on the sports tourist or casual fan to rent your home - and their interest is based on a particular team playing in the Super Bowl and they don't know that until 2 weeks prior. Secondly, the earlier you list, the higher you are on the rental listings page. This becomes invaluable when there are 30-50+ listings late in the year.

Where do I stay during the rental period?

Private home listing is certainly not for everyone. Many people list furnished rental properties which are not their primary residence. However, if the home you wish to list IS your primary residence then you obviously need somewhere to stay. What many people choose to do is use money earned and the time available for a vacation of their own. Use it as an excuse for that weekend away - and best of all you're often receiving rental fees in excess of what you'd spend. Visit friends, visit family - and get paid at the same time!

How much should I charge?

That is all up to you - Set a price that you are comfortable with - either per night or per week. Event Lodging cannot guarantee that your home will rent. Take into account all the things your home has to offer such as the number of sleep spaces, a fireplace, a swimming pool, location, etc. and charge accordingly.

Also, many homeowners require a minimum night stay during high-demand periods.

Do I ask for a deposit?

Yes. One or two nights stay is a good rule of thumb. EventLodging.net does provide a basic rental agreement which includes a deposit that you can modify and use to suit your needs.

How many nights do I have to rent my home?

Again this is up to you. Some homeowners make their residences available the whole Super Bowl Week. Other homeowners prefer to rent for a day or two. There is no minimum that your home must be available.

Am I guaranteed to rent my home?

Absolutely not. Event Lodging provides an inexpensive means by which you can advertise your property for rent. Whether or not your property rents for the event depends on many factors including asking price, proximity, amenities, and demand.
